Lucy MacLeod, DG Creative Wellbeing Creative Health & Wellbeing Director, provides an update a recent CAMHS Mural Workshop at The Bridge, Dumfries.
I was working with a mixed group of Art Journal Project graduates and CAMHS service users – focusing on expressive, large-scale drawing/painting, composition and colour.
First we warmed up with some simple life drawing exercises to relax the body and mind before creating A1 drawings and paintings from reference images before duplicating them in a contrasting colour. The two images were then collaged together to create a unique, vibrant composition.
After lunch participants worked in three groups, bringing their personal collaged drawings together to create a large-scale mural – working together to create a design that unified their work into a collective piece of art.
Next Katie Anderson and participants will filter the design options for the CAMHS space at The Willows before consulting with staff and service users in order to make a final decision.
