Throughout February and March 2024, Midpark Hospital in Dumfries is playing host to a series of creative workshops.
The Empowering Portraits sessions are taking place across six weeks, presenting patients and staff with a unique opportunity to engage in artistic expression and exploration.
Under the guidance of Dumfries-based artist Kirsty Turpie, participants are able to take part in a variety of creative activities focused around the theme of portraits, self-reflection, and wellbeing. During each session attendees are introduced to a different technique and materials including Gelli and foam printing, mixed media collage and Zentangles.
Frank Hayes, the DG Creative Wellbeing Art in Healthcare coordinator, reflected on the sessions so far, noting the enthusiastic engagement and creativity among participants. He said,
“Everyone really got involved with the various expressive techniques, that were new to most participants, and the workshops were a great success. There was a real creative buzz as well as a sense of contemplation through the works that were created. I was truly impressed at the diversity and quality of the artwork. The workshops created an atmosphere of collaboration, inspiration, and personal growth. We look forward to further creative collaboration soon.”
