Solway Song: A Celebration of Coast and Community at Loch Arthur for HAS 26 D&G Day

Following a day of inspiring discussions, creative workshops and thought-provoking presentations at the Healing Arts Scotland 2026 Dumfries & Galloway Day conference, delegates came together for a special evening celebrating the power of music, film and community.

Produced in collaboration with Arts D&G, Paragon Music and Loch Arthur Camphill Community, the evening began with a warm welcome at Loch Arthur. Delegates and members of the Loch Arthur community shared a delicious buffet meal, lovingly prepared by the talented chefs at Loch Arthur, before hearing about the incredible work taking place across the community and the values that underpin it. It was a fitting setting to reflect on the day’s conversations around creativity, wellbeing and connection.

As the sun began to set, everyone made their way together to the community hall for an unforgettable concert.

The evening opened with a joyful performance from the Loch Arthur Band, who showcased an uplifting selection of songs they have been developing alongside musician Stuart MacPherson. Their enthusiasm and musicianship set the tone for an evening that celebrated creativity in all its forms.

Audiences were then treated to the premiere of Musings at Mersehead, a moving new documentary following the creative journey of Paragon artist Sarah Law. Filmed at the stunning RSPB Mersehead Nature Reserve, the film explores how Sarah uses field recordings, collaboration and the natural environment to create music, while reflecting on accessibility, creativity, mental wellbeing and the transformative impact of artistic opportunity. Beautifully filmed by Stuart MacPherson, the documentary offered a thoughtful and inspiring insight into Sarah’s creative practice.

Following the screening, Sarah Law and Stuart MacPherson brought the project to life with a captivating live performance, seamlessly weaving together the themes explored in the film and demonstrating the unique relationship between music, place and nature.

The concert concluded with an intimate performance by award-winning Dumfries & Galloway singer-songwriter Zoë Bestel. Renowned for her ethereal vocals, poignant songwriting and captivating stage presence, Zoë’s set provided a beautiful and reflective close to the evening, leaving audiences with a lasting sense of calm and inspiration.

The evening perfectly embodied the spirit of Healing Arts Scotland, demonstrating how creativity can bring people together, spark meaningful conversations and support health and wellbeing. Through collaboration between artists, communities and organisations, it offered a memorable celebration of the transformative power of the arts.

OutPost Arts would like to thank Arts D&G, Paragon Music, Loch Arthur Camphill Community, all of the performers, volunteers and everyone who joined us for making the evening such a special part of Healing Arts Scotland.
