2024 Art Journal Project – Spring Update

Thirty participants are now on their creative journey with the 2024 Art Journal Project.

Liz McQueen, our our Adult Creative Wellbeing lead, provides an update on what’s been happening so far and what to expect in the next few months.

Part 1 of the Art Journal Project is all about working mostly in black and white to really explore tone texture and mark making. Art Journallers have been attending weekly zoom sessions lead by artists Frank Hayes, Lucy Macleod, Lucy Lee & Helen Walsh – exploring drawing and mark making using pen, ink, charcoal and collage.

It’s been wonderful to see the artistic confidence of our participants go from strength to strength each week, from the tentative doodles in week 1 to the bold collaged drawings in week 5. It’s been a voyage of discovery finding out about preferred mediums and subjects and the volume of work produced by the group has been astounding.

We are looking forward to rounding off this first part of the project with an in-person folded book and clay workshop this weekend and a gallery trip the weekend after. Then we will be ready to embark on the second part of the project which is all about COLOUR. I can’t wait to see what unfolds!
