BACKGROUND

Creative Toolbox is a dynamic creative wellbeing programme for young people aged 11-18, in Dumfries & Galloway who want to boost their confidence, social connections, creativity, and mental wellbeing. If you’re dealing with low self-esteem, feeling stuck, or just want to try something new, Creative Toolbox is a great way to explore your potential.

The programme focuses on different art forms and how storytelling can help you express yourself in new ways. You’ll have the chance to work with professional artists from Dumfries & Galloway and beyond, learning new skills and building your confidence through creative activities.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS

You’ll receive a Creative Toolbox filled with materials that make it easy to take part in every session and give ideas to help stay creative at home.

Over several months, you’ll be guided by Georgia, our Youth Lead, who will be your sounding board and will work with each participant individually to navigate any needs you may have. Georgia will work alongside Associate Artists who will take you through engaging and hands-on sessions.   These can be in-person or remote, and will explore a variety of art forms including:

  • Drama
  • Creative writing
  • Film/Photography
  • Sound Design
  • Illustration
  • Textiles

There will be Peer Mentors at all workshops. These are graduates from the previous year and will offer feedback, advice and encouragement.

private youth chat will be created, where you can connect with Georgia, other participants and peer mentors, share ideas, and support each other throughout the project.

GROUP TRIPS

Group Trips occur throughout the programme taking you regionwide and further afield to places such as Glasgow and Edinburgh to explore creative spaces and experiences. These are fun days out which are designed to research creative work to inform and inspire creative practice as well as having fun days out with peers. Past trips have taken participants to the Kirkcudbright Art & Craft Trail, a zine-making workshop in Glasgow, backstage tours of Traverse Theatre, a world building workshop with Tortoise in a Nutshell and a film-making day at Sky Studios in Edinburgh.

Creative Toolbox is designed to be fun, meaningful, and accessible, helping you develop skills without any pressure
