Creative Toolbox is an exciting new youth creative wellbeing programme for young people from across Dumfries & Galloway dealing with low self-esteem, low confidence and/or poor mental health.
Georgia Blue, our Youth Creative Wellbeing lead provides an update:
“Theatre-maker & performer Marion Geoffray, led a fantastic drama and devising workshop for our Creative Toolbox group on the 11th of May. The group were shown different devising storytelling techniques such as newspaper world, storytelling dice and varied pieces of texts from musical theatre. We created soundscapes and moving pictures using our bodies. The group played with costume pieces and created new characters as well as understanding how music plays an important part in creating atmosphere in a storytelling piece. In the afternoon, the group used all they had learned to devise their own pieces – one was of a Texan style court drama, the other a site specific fantastical murder mystery about sky people and villagers. The group had such a brilliant day, thank you Marion!”
“Illustrator Natalya Smith, led a storytelling illustration workshop on the 18th of May. The group were given varied Aesops fables that they were to interpret and create a storyboard depicting their version of the fable. In three groups, they created storyboards for ’The Stag & His Reflection’, The Fox & the Grapes’ & ’The Hare & the Tortoise’. They were introduced to POSCA pens, these are acrylic paint in pen form, and used vibrant and contrasting colours to colour their pictures. They played some more with the pens to create their own mosaic images. Thank you for a fun session Natalya!
Fun Fact: Some beekeepers use POSCA pens to identify the Queen Bee because the colour is so saturated (and non toxic)!”
